Black Adam is finally in theaters this weekend and will introduce its audience to the Justice Society of America.

one of its members, doctor destiny, portrayed by Pierce Brosnan, can warp reality and see into the future. Sounds a little like a certain wizard from a certain other comic book franchise, right? Well, the DC Comics Twitter account gave the world a little reminder of who got there first.

This drew a passionate response from both Marvel and DC fans, sparking a kind of “chicken and egg” debate in response.

Speaking strictly about the source material, there’s no denying that Doctor Fate came before Doctor Strange. In terms of film, however, Strange made his film debut first, with Pierce Brosnan even admitting he was inspired by Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, as pointed out by this Twitter user.

The heated “who wore it better?” debate continues in response to DC’s inflammatory tweet, but that question will be finally answered when the world gets to see it Black Adam.

If early reviews are any indicator, it seems like Doctor Strange has the edge here, but staunch DC fans passionately defend themselves against the film’s naysayers.

Our advice would probably be to stay off the internet and the discussion at large for fear of spoilers. Reports and reactions to Black Adams Post-credits scenes are already doing the rounds, including Dwayne Johnson’s take. It’s quickly becoming DC’s worst kept secret.

Instead, decide for yourself when the Black Adam hits theaters on October 21st.
