Season 2 of The White Lotus was filmed at the Four Seasons San Domenico Palace in Taormina, Sicily.

The city of Taormina is located on a hill on the east coast of Sicily, near the active volcano Etna.

The beautiful hotel, perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Ionian Sea, offers incredible views of the sea, Mount Etna and the Teatro Antico di Taormina Greek theatre.

The building, whose origins date back to the 14th century, was once a monastery before being converted into a luxury hotel in 1896. It has hosted notable historical figures such as Oscar Wilde, Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn.

Aubrey Plaza, who plays Harper in it The White Lotus Season 2, narrated news week how the Sicily setting influenced the show compared to Season 1’s Hawaiian setting.

She shared, “I think the setting is an important part of the show. It’s like a character, the place. So I think the show is very influenced by the energy of being on this volcanic Italian island and I think the show focuses more on sexual politics than coldness, colonialism and in my opinion the money and those kinds of issues that season one dealt with a lot about relationships and cheating, jealousy, sex, stuff like that.”

Plaza added that it was “beautiful” to shoot in Sicily, adding, “It’s just stunning. It was kind of a dream. It was very dreamy to live there for so long.”

Filming for the second season began in February 2022, with the hotel closed to guests until April 2022, when the cast and crew moved into the hotel.

Jennifer Coolidge, who plays Tanya, said the on-screen shot “doesn’t look real.”

She gushed, “It was better than it looks on screen. I mean, I know it’s impossible to believe if you haven’t been to Sicily, but it really doesn’t look real. Those seascapes and those giants.” Rocky formations coming out of the sea, it just doesn’t look real.”

Co-star John Gries added: “It was absolutely stunning. What’s interesting about some of the scenes we filmed was it was pretty cold because we got there in February, but it’s still just stunning. It’s breathtaking, even if you’re sitting out there shaking.”
