Amanda Seyfried’s Emmy-winning role as Elizabeth Holmes in Hulu The Dropout is beyond reproach – so much so that Jennifer Lawrence will no longer play the disgraced Theranos founder on the big screen.
Corresponding New York Times“Kyle BuchananLawrence retired from her starring role in director Adam McKay’s forthcoming Holmes film bad blood after seeing Seyfried’s acclaimed performance.
“I thought they were great,” Lawrence told Buchanan. “I thought, ‘Yeah, we don’t have to repeat that.’ She did.”
It was last December – three months earlier The Dropout debuted on Hulu — that Lawrence joined the film, which is based on John Carreyrou’s 2018 nonfiction book Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley.
Earlier this year, McKay told Insider that Lawrence had already “started working” on perfecting Holmes’ distinctive voice, adding. “She was born to play this role. With the voice she said she felt it. She is excited.”
Seyfried won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series in September for her work as Holmes The Dropout. She prevailed against fellow nominees Julia Garner (invent Anna), Margaret Qualley (maid), Sarah Paulson (Impeachment: American Crime Story), Lily James (Pam & Tommy) and Toni Collette (The stairs).
