Kanye West claims he came up with the idea for Django Unchained

Django Unchained

about Sony

Kanye West has once again been in the headlines for a variety of reasons, from incredulous to offensive, but his latest claim has drawn the most skeptical reaction imaginable on the internet after he claimed Jamie Foxx and Quentin Tarantino stole an idea from him and turned it into the smash hit blockbuster Django Unchained.

In his now infamous interview with Piers Morgan, the musician explained that while working with Oscar-winner Foxx on the video for 2005’s single “Gold Digger,” he used multiple hyphens to suggest a story to the A-lister that ultimately clinched the hit would hit the big screen as a $425 million box office success that won two Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor and Best Original Screenplay.

“Tarantino can write a film about slavery where — actually, he and Jamie, they got the idea from me, because the idea for djangoI suggested the video for Gold Digger to Jamie Foxx and Quentin Tarantino, and then Tarantino made a movie out of it.”

Of course, though, it didn’t take long for social media to be inundated with reactions to Ye’s latest public outburst, with many of the doubters noting that Tarantino first started discussing the project that would eventually become django in 2007 (which admittedly was after Gold Digger), but Foxx would not be cast as the lead until four years later — and that was after Will Smith, the director’s first choice, turned down the role.

So far, neither Tarantino nor Foxx have responded to Yes’s claims, but we’re anxious to see what they have to say if and when a response or rebuttal is issued. Kanye West claims he came up with the idea for Django Unchained
