during construction Black AdamRumors were ramping up that Superman was ready to pop up for a brief cameo to tease Showdown star and producer Dwayne Johnson, who he’d been hyping for years – but there was one worrying moment when it appeared as if Henry Cavill were not involved.

Speculation circulated that the dreaded faceless body was Double, who had replaced the DCEU’s canon Kryptonian in both Shazam! and peacemaker would be drafted if an agreement could not be reached with Cavill, which ironically would have seen the scammer tie The Witcher Star in terms of franchise appearances at three apiece (although Zack Snyders justice league would technically increase his Kal-El to four).

Thankfully, it didn’t come to that, but cinematographer Lawrence Sher admitted in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that plans were initially afoot to have a suit-and-boots double before Cavill agreed to show up in person — something no doubt facilitated by his friendship with Johnson and his status as a client of Seven Bucks co-founder Dany Garcia.

“If we can get Henry to be there, we’ll sort that out at a later date. Let’s quickly take this throne room set that we’ve been working on… We’re going to create something for Dwayne to walk into… And we’re going to shoot it in about 10 minutes. Seeing an actor emerge from a full silhouette was actually goosebumps. “Wow, this will work 100 percent. Now they have to see if they can get the guy with the head to be there.”

It probably would have been a wiser idea to scrap Superman’s cameo altogether if Cavill wasn’t under the costume because fans would be tearing apart another anonymous Man of Steel outing. Luckily for audiences, The Rock makes its films, so the worst-case scenario hasn’t materialized.
