There have been 33 consecutive draws without a grand prize winner, resulting in the jackpot exceeding half a billion dollars.
WASHINGTON — The Powerball jackpot, which has continued to grow since August, has risen to $580 million drawing on Saturday.
Nobody won the jackpot on Wednesday, although a momentarily delayed draw left players pondering their fate. There have now been 33 draws without a grand prize, resulting in the jackpot surpassing half a billion dollars.
Saturday’s price is an estimated $580 million, with a $278.2 million cash option. Players must match all five numbers and those power ball to win the jackpot. The likelihood of that happening? Less than 1 in 292 million.
Although the jackpot has not yet reached its match, there have been several players who recently won millions of dollars in prizes.
Two tickets in Michigan and New Jersey won $1 million after matching all five white ball numbers. Another player in New Jersey got all five numbers right except for the Powerball, but added the Power Play, meaning his ticket is worth $2 million.
Americans were thrown into a lottery frenzy this summer when a near-record Mega Millions jackpot of $1.377 billion was up for grabs in July. Two people from Illinois came forward to claim this prize last month, but have chosen to remain anonymous.
Powerball still holds the world record for the largest jackpot with a whopping $1.586 billion prize won in 2016. This award was shared by winners in Tennessee, Florida and California.
Powerball jackpot winners have the option of receiving an annuity payment paid over 29 years or a lump sum payment. There have been five Powerball jackpot winners so far in 2022.
To get a clearer picture of the price level, if you stacked $500 million with $100 bills, it would be about the size of New York’s One World Trade Center.
