The Sandman renewed for Season 2 on Netflix

New episodes will focus on additional stories in the universe of Neil Gaiman’s graphic novels.

The Sandman returns to Netflix. The streaming platform has officially renewed the Neil Gaiman series based on the DC Comics universe, adding new episodes to the franchise based on other stories from the graphic novels.

Ahead of Wednesday night’s announcement, there was much speculation among Netflix subscribers as to whether The Sandman would be renewed or even canceled despite its success, even prompting Gaiman to dispute a tweet from a fan account online. And while Netflix has renewed The Sandman, it’s not exactly coming back for a second season, as the show will focus on other aspects of the conflict between Dream and the forces of Hell and explore the many challenges the universe is facing in the The sequel faces Morpheus’ centuries-long absence. The number of episodes and all the details of the plot have been kept under wraps up to this point.

“Millions and millions of people have welcomed, watched and loved ‘The Sandman’ on Netflix, from established Sandman fans to people who were just curious and then became obsessed with the Lord of Dreams, his family and their antics,” Gaiman said in a statement. “I’m incredibly excited to say that Allan Heinberg, David Goyer and I will be bringing more stories from ‘The Sandman’ to life by collaborating with Netflix and Warner Bros. There are some amazing stories waiting for Morpheus and the rest of them (not to mention more members of the Endless Family to meet). No one will be happier about this than the Sandman cast and crew: they are the biggest Sandman fans out there. And now it’s time to get back to work. After all, a family dinner is coming up. And Lucifer is waiting for Morpheus to return to Hell…”
